Ice skating in the west of Munich is possible again – Munich

Next Wednesday, December 7th, should bring joy to ice skating fans in the west of the city: For the first time in a good year and a half, the Ice and Fun Sports Center West at Agnes-Bernauer-Straße 241 in Pasing will open its doors for public skating . While the ice rink remained taboo for private skating enthusiasts last season, it can now be used three times a week to teach children the fun of ice skating or to do pirouettes themselves. Always on Wednesdays between 9.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. and 1.30 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. and on Thursdays from 1.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m.

More opening hours than these, says Thomas Groß from the municipal department for education and sport, are currently not possible. “The vacancies in the morning,” explains the spokesman, “are due to the current personnel situation, just like the offer for public ice skating that hasn’t taken place for a long time.” In other words, some people were and are sick, but above all it is “difficult to find staff for the ticket booth or to rent the skates”. So if you want to race over smooth lanes on days other than Wednesdays or Thursdays, you either have to switch to the artificial ice rink in Ostpark, which offers running times every day except Mondays and Wednesdays, or visit the ice rink in the Olympic Park.

In any case, the ice rink in the Prinzregentenstadion is not an alternative at the moment: due to a technical defect in the cooling machine, the surface could not be prepared until the planned start of the season on December 1st. In the meantime, external experts were on site. But it is still unclear whether the device is now working. If the repairs are successful, ice construction can begin as early as this week. Doris Betzl from Stadtwerke hopes that “ice skating in the Prinze should be possible from mid-December”. However, in the event that the ice machine is not operational, the public utility company wants to procure a mobile refrigeration system.

However, that would be much more complex and would take longer. “In any case, our goal is to make ice skating possible before Christmas,” said the spokeswoman. During the Christmas holidays, the municipal ice rinks in Pasing and at the Ostpark are also open exclusively to the public – because club and school sports are on pause.
