The quarter-finals of the Ice Hockey Champions League will take place without German clubs. After Wolfsburg and Straubing, EHC Red Bull Munich was also eliminated on Wednesday evening. Bayern lost 5-1 in the first leg to EV Zug, also losing 5-1 in the second leg. Gregory Hofmann (1st minute), Dario Allenspach (24th), Fabrice Herzog (30th), Samuel Kreis (34th) and Yannick Zehnder (47th) scored for the Swiss champions. Ben Smith (12th) managed to equalize in the meantime. Hofmann had already scored for Zug after 49 seconds, a little hope sprouted up at the EHC after the 1:1. But when Julian Lutz was the last man to lose the puck and Allenspach took advantage of the faux pas to take the lead, Munich’s heads went down. The body language and the effort made it clear that the German championship runner-up no longer believed in a comeback. Zug added more goals without having to put in much effort. Maksymilian Szuber (31st) also received a game misconduct penalty after an elbow check to the head of Tobias Geisser from Zug.
