EHC Red Bull Munich suffered a bitter home defeat in the first leg of the Champions Hockey League (CHL) in the round of 16. He lost 5-1 to Swiss champions EV Zug on Tuesday. In the 28th minute the guests had already led 5:0. The game was over for EHC goalkeeper Danny aus den Birken at this point, and Daniel Allavena came on for him. Before the game, those responsible for both clubs had expected a close encounter. However, there was hardly anything to be seen of this in the Munich Olympic ice rink. A double strike within 25 seconds gave Zug a 2-0 lead early on, which was gradually extended. He knew that Zug could “play great ice hockey,” EHC coach Don Jackson said before the game.
