“I know what you did last summer” becomes a series on Amazon – with a similar story, but completely new actors.

Those who were socialized in the mid to late 1990s made their first attempts at horror cinema with two film series: “Scream” (from 1996) and “I know what you did last summer” (from 1997).

The two teen slashers penned by Kevin Williamson (56) are now experiencing a comeback: In January 2022, “Scream 5” will hit the cinemas with the original stars – and it is already starting at Amazon Prime Video a TV show version of “I Know What You Did Last Summer”.

Start date of the series

The TV series of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” will be available on Amazon Prime Video from October 15, 2021. The streamer provides the first four episodes at the start. The following four episodes will appear on Fridays.

The story of the series

The premise of the series is the same as that of the 1997 film, which had two sequels (1998 and 2006). A group of teenage friends runs into a man. Instead of helping him, they flee. A year later, a killer chases after the teenagers with the message: “I know what you did last summer”.

In addition, the series differs significantly from the model. Since eight episodes have to be recorded, the focus is not only on the struggle for survival, but even more than in the film on the complicated relationships between the characters and their secrets. Of course, social media, where teenagers make their lives public, doesn’t make things any easier in 2021.

Incidentally, both the films and the series are (loosely) based on the novel of the same name by Lois Duncan (1934-2016) from 1973.

The stars of the series

A disappointment for fans of the film: The stars of the original, Jennifer Love Hewitt (42), Sarah Michelle Gellar (44), Ryan Phillippe (47) or Freddie Prinze Jr. (45) are not there, not even in small roles. Instead, the series relies on unused faces.

The main actors are Madison Iseman (24, “Jumanji”) in a double role as an unequal pair of twins, plus Ashley Moore (28), Ezekiel Goodman, Sebastian Amoruso and Brianne Tju (23), who already played in the series version of “Scream”.
