Hydrochloric acid leak detected at Candia milk factory

A hydrochloric acid leak was detected on Tuesday morning at the Sodiaal group’s dairy plant in Quimper (Finistère). Alerted around 5 a.m. this morning, the authorities set up a departmental operations center to monitor the progress of this release. According to the prefecture of Finistère, the leak “remained contained in the site of the company”. A release of irritating gas was observed but “no injuries are to be deplored”. The leak occurred within the company Eurosérum Candia, located rue Philippe Le Bon.

The incident led to the evacuation of the employees of the factory but also the confinement of the employees of the shops in the sector. Area traffic routes have been temporarily closed.

What impact on the environment?

The leak was stopped by the firefighters, and in particular their team specialized in technological risks. “There is no more gassing”, promises the prefecture, which was able to restore circulation.

Analyzes are underway “to determine the possible impacts on the environment”, specify the authorities.
