It is no longer an announced catastrophe – the catastrophe has long since arrived. Yes, Afghanistan is suffering from the rule of the Taliban. But Afghanistan is now also starving. Because the country’s economy has been on the verge of collapse since the militant Islamists came to power and the global community has frozen large parts of its aid payments, almost 60 percent of the almost 40 million Afghans are already having difficulties getting enough food at all.
