Amtsberg: Human rights violations do not go unpunished

Human Rights Day: “Human rights are under enormous pressure worldwide. Freedom of expression and freedom of the press are being restricted,” says Green politician Luise Amtsberg.
The Federal Government Commissioner for Human Rights, Luise Amtsberg, sees individual freedoms and rights in danger in many places around the world.
“Human rights are under enormous pressure worldwide. Freedom of expression and freedom of the press are being restricted. The spaces in which civil society can act are shrinking. Achievements of equality are being reversed and individual rights are being questioned in favor of collective group rights,” said the Green politician on the day of human rights today.
What unites the human rights hotspots in the world is the “need to hold accountable those responsible for human rights violations,” Amberg said. “Be it the recently decided reconnaissance mission for Iran or the international criminal investigation of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine: it must be unmistakably clear to everyone that human rights violations do not go unpunished.”
According to Amtsberg, the human rights crises are unlikely to decrease in the coming year. The federal government will therefore do its part to “defend international institutions against attacks, better protect human rights defenders and give human rights even more importance in our economic relations,” announced the commissioner.
