In the game between Hamburger SV and Fortuna Düsseldorf, there were racist insults against the professionals Narey and Jatta. The DFB control committee is now investigating and the HSV wants to take action against the perpetrators.

The control committee of the German Football Association (DFB) reacted to the racist incidents during the second division game between Hamburger SV and Fortuna Düsseldorf (1: 1) and will “initiate investigations”. The association said in a statement.

In the game in the Volksparkstadion, players from both teams were racially insulted on Saturday evening. The former HSV and current Fortuna professional Khaled Narey was particularly affected. There should also have been insults against Bakéry Jatta from HSV, as HSV viewers had confirmed.

HSV announces punitive measures against perpetrators

The HSV now wants to take action against the misconduct. Video recordings and the club’s own observations are also to be evaluated in order to identify potential perpetrators and punish their behavior appropriately, according to a statement on Monday evening. The penalty could range from a warning to a stadium ban, members are threatened with exclusion from the club and possible penalties from the DFB can be passed on directly to the perpetrators, according to the HSV announcement.

“We take these abnormalities and descriptions very seriously and are now in the analysis and clarification phase,” said the HSV event manager Kurt Krägel.

Narey counters racist slurs with irony

The Hamburgers had already condemned the racist attacks on Sunday. The incidents are unacceptable and have “no place in the Volksparkstadion, but also in our society,” it said on Twitter. The club emphasized that HSV stands for diversity and “everything we can” will do “to clear up and punish the incidents.”

The people of Düsseldorf also condemned the incidents “strongly”. They therefore hope “that HSV will succeed in clearing up the incidents as quickly as possible,” reported the “kicker”.

Narey as the main victim had thanked the majority of the supporters for the “warm welcome”, as the 27-year-old former HSV player wrote on Instagram. “All ‘fans’ who racially insulted me during the game and threw beer at me,” said the newcomer from Düsseldorf, wishing “a speedy recovery.”
