A long week-end of depression without Japanese hip-hop or Polish electro to get some atmosphere. Deprived of Trans Musicales for the first time since 1979 and the creation of the festival, Rennes started the winter without its dose of vitamins last year. There had been, for lack of anything better, a few filmed concerts but in full second confinement, the heart was not really at the party.
After two years of scarcity, the Breton capital is therefore preparing to regain a bit of madness with the long-awaited return of the festival which has made it famous. And unlike the summer events, like the Vieilles Charrues or the Route du Rock, it is in a usual configuration that the Trans should be held from December 1 to 5.

“After the cancellation last year, we never imagined going back to a degraded edition, underlines Erwan Gouadec, deputy director of the festival. The sanitary conditions allow us today to make this possible but we remain vigilant as to the evolution of the situation. If the concerts resume gradually, the gauge is indeed still limited to 75% indoors.
“We are waiting to learn more but it is not the same thing to welcome 13,000 or 10,000 people at the Parc Expo”, underlines Erwan Gouadec. The organizers also do not know whether festival-goers will have to present their health pass or a negative test before diving into the minds of the Trans. “We had worked on a dozen scenarios last year so I’m confident in our ability to adapt,” smiles the deputy director.
Some artists scheduled for 2020 rescheduled
Despite these uncertainties, the Trans will stay true to their DNA with programming (read framed) which will still explore world sounds with nearly 85 groups of 32 nationalities who will follow one another on stage. We find some names there, like Andrea Laszlo of Simone, Lujipeka (member of Columbine) or Loharano which were initially programmed in 2020. “We kept about a third of the programming of last year, in particular young groups that the we support ”, indicates Mathieu Gervais, co-programmer of the Trans with the historical Jean-Louis Brossard.
For the rest, the two researchers searched again to find the musical nuggets of tomorrow, spending a lot of time behind their computer. “We like to see the groups on stage before programming them, but that was not possible,” he emphasizes. This year, I only did the Inouïs of Printemps de Bourges and I have just returned from MIL in Lisbon. We are therefore going to discover certain groups on stage such as the public and it is quite exciting! “.
Tiersen, DJ Pone and a Eurovision Song Contestant on the bill
Turkish electro-pop, Malagasy metal, Balkan fusion or Cypriot psychedelic rock. We do not change the Trans Musicales which will once again offer a cosmopilite and daring program this year. However, we will find some well-known names such as Yann Tiersen, who will come to present his new electro project live for the first time, DJ Pone, former member of the Fonky Familiy, or Arnaud Rebotini, who will be on stage with the group Cheap House. Dadi Freyr, candidate representing Iceland at the last Eurovision Song Contest, is also on the bill for this 43rd edition.
