How many biases are there? – Knowledge

Science has now described almost 200 errors in reasoning – it’s slowly becoming confusing. Psychologists are now proposing a model that can be used to explain many supposedly different cognitive distortions.

The instruction leaflet for the human handling of information has meanwhile swollen enormously. The basic, lean diagnosis is that it is by no means a sober look at facts that significantly shapes judgements, opinions and attitudes. Instead, desires, hopes, preferences, and other factors lure you to interpret information in a way that suits you. People think of the world as they like it: In psychology, this is referred to as bias or cognitive distortion.
