How I solved my luxury problem for 12 euros

As a traveller, I like to have my seven things with me, which includes an iPhone, iPad, MacBook and fresh panties as well as a Fire TV Stick from Amazon. With the latest model, I was now confronted with a special challenge. A luxury problem? Definitely, but also an excellent topic for GIGA’s weekend column.

Amazon

It’s the weekend and the diva from GIGA complains again around and reports on a very personal luxury problem. What’s it about today? A FireTV Stick I don’t just use it on my home TV. It’s a bit older, but it still takes a good picture and, thanks to the streaming stick, is really smart again.

Amazon’s current Fire TV Stick packaging is a step backwards

The Fire TV Stick is also very useful for me on the go. Quickly plug into the TV in the hotel or in the holiday apartment, so I don’t have to change my account data every time Netflix, YouTube and Co. on third-party devices and have everything in one place. Unfortunately, a replacement was recently due to a defect and I bought the latest Fire TV Stick 4K Max at a lower price of less than 40 euros (view at Amazon). I was then surprised by the somewhat voluminous packaging.

With the predecessor, Amazon temporarily opted for a very space-saving and compact casing. It was also suitable for travel. Ideal for me, the Fire TV Stick hardly took up any space in the suitcase and was still safely stowed away. Unfortunately, this is different with the new box. It feels like my stomach – too big, too wobbly and rather unsuitable for mobile transport. Seriously, Amazon’s new outer packaging is a case for the bin, not for travel. A real step backwards.

My thoughts for the weekend: The column aims to provide food for thought and reflect on the week’s “news flood” towards the end. A small selection of previous articles in the column:

My pretty problem solution for less than 12 euros

So what to do? Less demanding contemporaries just take a plastic bag and then throw everything in it – the stick, the remote control, the HDMI extension, the power supply and the USB cable. But this doesn’t do me justice. If I have to choose now, I’d rather get a stylish solution to the problem.

My choice therefore fell on a compact pencil case made of real leather. Normally costs just under 20 euros, currently available in light brown for less than 12 euros (view at Amazon). Fits just about everything and is even more compact than the older Fire TV Stick travel-ready packaging. For me the ideal solution to my luxury problem.

Also useful:

Alternatively, Amazon also has transport bags specially designed for the stick. Unfortunately not made of leather, but a bit tidier and also slightly more expensive (view at Amazon). Ergo: I’m probably not the only diva who would like to see her little friend safely stowed away.
