How AI should become open and transparent – business

The largest AI systems are owned by a few companies that are not necessarily trustworthy. An initiative with more than 50 companies and universities now wants to ensure more security – with open source.

There are three companies that largely dominate the market and thus the development of artificial intelligence (AI) with their large language models: Open AI, Microsoft and Google. It is still unclear what effects this dominance has on society and what risks it poses. This is also because their AI models are proprietary; no one can control them from the outside. The recent chaos surrounding Open AI boss Sam Altman, who was fired and then rehired, raises questions about how transparent companies need to be when developing such powerful technology. Should AI really be made by people whose companies could fall apart in a matter of days?
