Housing benefit: not building is also expensive – economy

The housing benefit is significantly expanded, which costs billions of euros. Unfortunately, this is unavoidable in the crisis, hundreds of thousands depend on it. But it also shows the high cost of doing nothing.

So things can really get going: the housing benefit will increase significantly in the new year, and the group of recipients should be about three times larger, instead of the last 600,000 households with low incomes, it should then be up to two million. The federal and state governments want to share the enormous costs for this: the Federal Building Ministry estimates that the reform will cost an additional €3.7 billion in the coming year alone. All in all, the state would contribute 5.1 billion euros directly to the housing costs of the citizens.
