“House of the Dragon”: What’s next for the hit series?

Series fans are looking forward to the sequels to their favorite shows. Here is everything you already know about the upcoming seasons of popular series.

The past year has offered series viewers a number of new productions that have proven extremely popular. For many of these series, a continuation in the form of another season has already been decided. All known information about the upcoming editions of popular series hits are compiled here.

“House of the Dragon” season two

The “Game of Thrones” spin-off series “House of the Dragon” thrilled fantasy fans and series viewers in late summer 2022. A second season has already been confirmed by the US premium cable channel HBO. Filming on the new episodes is scheduled to begin in early 2023. Unfortunately, season two won’t appear until 2024 on HBO and HBO Max.

The surviving characters and their cast will all return in upcoming episodes. Showrunner Ryan Condal (42) has already announced, that viewers and fans do not have to be prepared for any further jumps in time or changes of actors, the frequency of which was criticized by some quarters in the premiere edition. From season two, the civil war in the Targaryen household called “Dance of the Dragons” will be told in real time.

“And Just Like That…” Season Two

The “Sex and the City” sequel “And Just Like That…” also caused a sensation in 2022. A second season has been confirmed since March. Filming has been underway in New York City since October. Showrunner Michael Patrick King (68) revealed to the industry magazine “Variety”announced that the show’s second installment, again consisting of ten episodes, will be released on HBO and HBO Max in summer 2023.

The popular leading actresses Sarah Jessica Parker (57), Cynthia Nixon (56) and Kristin Davis (57) will of course be back in the new episodes, as well as new faces from the premiere edition such as Sara Ramirez (plays Che Diaz, 47) or Nicole Ari Parker (Lisa Todd Wexley, 52) return. Newcomers are sitcom legend Tony Danza (71) as Che’s father and John Corbett (61) as Carrie’s old love interest Aidan Shaw. After the death of Mr. Big (Chris Noth, 68), it doesn’t seem impossible that Carrie and Aidan will get closer again in the second season of “And Just Like That…”.

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” season two

Amazon’s “Lord of the Rings” series “The Rings of Power” continues with a second season. Filming has been underway in the UK since October 2022. Season two is expected to debut on Amazon Prime Video in early 2024. A start at Christmas 2023 does not appear to be out of the question either.

The upcoming second season is said to be “darker, more intense and a little scarier”. executive producer Lindsey Weber revealed to industry magazine Deadline. After the revelation of his true identity, the big villain Sauron in particular should now be the focus of the fantasy series. Co-showrunner Patrick McKay explained in advance: “Sauron can now just be Sauron. Like Tony Soprano [aus ‘Die Sopranos’] or Walter White [aus ‘Breaking Bad’]. He’s evil, but in a complex way.”

There is also a change of actor to report in Amazon’s major project: Joseph Mawle (48) will no longer embody the villainous Adar in season two. Sam Hazeldine (50) takes over the character. With the shipbuilder Círdan, one of the most popular Elven characters from the world imagined by JRR Tolkien (1892-1973) will also appear in the new episodes of “The Rings of Power”. An actor for Círdan has not yet been determined.

“Dahmer – Monsters: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer” season two

In the serial killer series “Dahmer – Monster: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer” Evan Peters (35) shines as the main character Jeffrey Dahmer. The real-life serial killer committed a total of 17 murders between 1978 and 1991. “Dahmer” is one of the most successful Netflix releases of the year, and advanced to become the third most watched English-language series production of the streaming service.

Netflix ordered a second and third season of the series in early November 2022. However, the coming issues will not revolve around Jeffrey Dahmer, but instead focus on “other monstrous figures”. So “Dahmer” returns as an anthology series and could tell the stories of other well-known serial killers like Ted Bundy (1946-1989) or John Wayne Gacy (1942-1994). According to the current status, there will unfortunately not be a reunion with main actor Peters.

“Wednesday” season two

The “Addams Family” spin-off “Wednesday” with Jenna Ortega (20) as the title character became the second most-watched English-language Netflix show ever in 2022. In view of such an enormous success, the official confirmation of a second season is usually a formality for the streaming service from California, but the teen horror series has not yet been officially renewed.

However, this should happen in the coming weeks or months, since so far none of those involved have spoken out against a continuation. Most likely, the main character Wednesday Addams (Ortega) will then experience new adventures at Nevermore Academy, but nothing is known about the exact content at the moment. However, some storylines from season one are still awaiting resolution. For example, the final moments of the premiere episode saw the season one big villain escape from police custody.

“The Witcher” season three

The Netflix series “The Witcher” has made negative headlines in recent months. Superstar and leading actor Henry Cavill (39) obviously had no desire to embody monster hunter Geralt von Riva. Regarding the reasons, Cavill is covered, but it is clear that Liam Hemsworth (32) will replace him from season four and play the main character Geralt. It remains to be seen whether the series will survive this cast change at all.

Before that, however, the third season of “The Witcher” will appear, the last with series star Cavill in the lead role. The shooting of the new episodes has already been completed. It is expected to continue on Netflix in summer 2023.

“Stranger Things” season five

The fourth season of “Stranger Things” will be released on Netflix in summer 2022, and exploded with over 1.3 billion hours watched worldwide within the first 28 days of release the most successful English-language Netflix series ever. With the already confirmed fifth season, the retro mystery series will now end. An official start date for the final chapter has not yet been set, but it will probably not be that far before 2024.

Because the shooting of season five hasn’t even started yet, and the post-production of “Stranger Things” traditionally takes its time, after all, the supernatural worlds of “Upside Down” have to be created by computer. In the final fifth season, the protagonists around Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown, 18), Steve (Joe Keery, 30) and Jim Hopper (David Harbour, 47) will probably try to close the gate to the dark parallel dimension forever.

“Bridgerton” season three

The romantic historical series Bridgerton will get a third and fourth season on Netflix. That has been a fact for quite some time. Filming on the new episodes from season three also began in July 2022, which is why the series should return to Netflix screens around summer 2023.

The theme will then be about the love between Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan, 35) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton, 29), because “Who is Lady Whistledown?” the fourth “Bridgerton” novel by template author Julia Quinn (52) is adapted for the Netflix series. Some new actors like Daniel Francis, Sam Phillips and James Phoon have already been confirmed for season three, but it is not yet known which roles they will take on.

“Squid Game” season two

The evil South Korean thriller series “Squid Game” became the most successful Netflix series ever in 2021. A second season has already been confirmed and should be released on Netflix at the end of 2023 at the earliest or in the course of 2024. Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk (51) promises for season two “new games and new characters”. Especially the latter is also necessary, since hardly a character survived the premiere edition of the show.

Main actor Lee Jung-jae (50) as Seong Gi-Hun will definitely be there in season two. Netflix has also announced a reality show based on “Squid Game”. In “Squid Game: The Challenge” 456 participants compete in different games for a prize money of 4.56 million US dollars. “Squid Game: The Challenge” will probably be released on Netflix before the second season of the original series.

“The Boys” season four

Amazon’s mega hit “The Boys” is also getting a sequel in the form of a fourth season, for which filming began in August 2022. The new episodes are therefore expected to appear on Amazon Prime Video in summer or autumn 2023. There is currently no information about the plot, so we have to wait for the first trailer and similar promotional material. However, it is already certain that “The Walking Dead” star Jeffrey Dean Morgan (56) is involved in an as yet unknown role and will strengthen the “The Boys” cast for season four.

In addition to season four of the parent series, “Gen V”, a spin-off of the popular Amazon show, will appear in 2023. The offshoot plays at a college for superheroes, including Jaz Sinclair (28), Lizze Broadway (24) and Patrick Schwarzenegger (29) in front of the camera. “Gen V” is intended to pick up and continue some storylines from the third season of “The Boys”. The fourth season of “The Boys” that will appear thereafter will in turn continue stories from “Gen V”, making the “The Boys” series universe on Amazon Prime Video more similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is often parodied in the show.
