Horse blessing Forstinning: For big and small – Ebersberg

The last day of the year in Forstinning traditionally belongs to the horses. The fact that the blessing of the horses always takes place on December 31 has to do with the second patron saint of the Forstinninger church: St. New Year’s Eve. If you look closely, you can see the wooden figure of the saint in the background on the wagon together with Deacon Hans Dimke, who is there every year for the blessing. New Year’s Eve is also the patron saint of domestic and farm animals, such as horses, so they are blessed on his name day in Forstinning. These, like the audience, had come in large numbers to receive the blessing, and both, as can be seen, of all sizes.
