The Japanese car maker Honda has presented a new electric car concept. Accordingly, he wants to bring an entire range of electric cars onto the market in the coming years. The first models are due to appear in spring 2022.
Honda held back in electromobility for a long time. So far, in addition to the hybrid models “HR-V”, “Jazz” and “CR-V”, the Japanese car manufacturer only has the small city runabout “E” as a purely electrically powered car in its ranks. But the company now wants to change that. In the future, it only wants to build electric cars.
On Wednesday, Honda presented its new electric car concept at a virtual press conference: the “e: N series”. The “e” stands for “electrification technology” and the “N” for “new / next.” The “e: N series” is to be produced in China, with the first models, “e: NS1” and “e: NP1, should come onto the market as early as spring 2022. Both should offer “sporty” and “safe” driving and have a “simple” and “elegant” design.
In the next five years Honda plans to bring out ten models of the “e: N series”. The concept includes a coupé, an SUV and a GT model. All models are to go on sale worldwide. Honda did not say when that would be the case.
Honda only wants to build electric cars
The Japanese carmaker has set itself the goal of developing only electric cars in the future. After 2030, Honda no longer wants to sell gasoline models – only hybrid and electric cars. The proportion of e-cars is to increase gradually. According to Honda’s plans, this should be 40 percent by 2030, 80 percent by 2035 and 100 percent by 2040. Honda also wants to work on the batteries of its electric vehicles.
By the year 2050, Honda wants to finally become climate neutral and bring the number of road deaths from accident collisions to zero. A new driver assistance system, which Honda will develop from 2022 and install in all cars in the future, should help.
