Home office: Going back to the office is right, but Amazon’s five-day rule is wrong – Economy

Amazon is known for its, to say the least, not particularly gentle treatment of its employees. When the Internet company cut thousands of jobs at the beginning of 2023, some employees in the USA were completely surprised: one morning they were simply no longer able to log into the computer system. Their access had been blocked overnight, and authorization failed: they were fired via an error message. So it is not surprising that Amazon is now imposing strict home office rules for its employees. From January, employees are to return to the office five days a week. Previously, two days of home office were permitted. The new rule affects more than 350,000 people in administration worldwide. Working together in the office maintains the Amazon culture and brings the teams closer together, argued CEO Andy Jassy in an email to employees.
