Höllentalangerhütte: Missing mountaineer from Munich found dead – Munich

Rescue workers searched the Alps for days for a man from Munich, but now the police report that the 73-year-old has died. A mountaineer discovered the man’s body by accident.

The Munich native set out alone early in the morning on September 21st to climb a via ferrata. He had not told his family the exact destination. When the 73-year-old did not return the following day, his daughter reported him missing. A tracking revealed that the man’s cell phone was last logged into the radio network in the Kreuzeck area south of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

The police were finally able to locate his car in the Kreuzeckbahn parking lot. An extensive search operation began, including with a police helicopter, over several days.

The man’s body was finally found by chance by a mountaineer on the Schafsteig below the Waxensteine ​​while descending to the Höllentalangerhütte. The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the death.
