Bavaria’s Minister of Health Klaus Holetschek (CSU) defended the state government’s Corona policy at the New Year’s reception of the CSU Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn. Nobody was prepared for such a situation. It was therefore all the more important “to make short-term decisions to combat the pandemic and to have the courage to do so”. People were asked to act and lead the way, not procrastinators and skeptics. Holetschek found words of appreciation for the employees in the healthcare system: Doctors and nursing staff were the real heroes in the crisis, their situation must be improved in the long term. Holetschek spoke out in favor of a hospital reform, but Berlin should not decide which clinics are to be closed in a “planned economy”. In addition, adequate medical care must be ensured.
