Höhenkirchen – place for footballers, skaters and bees – district of Munich

The Höhenkirchner Sportpark is currently a patchwork of different facilities – but that should change. “We want to create an overall concept here,” said Mayor Mindy Konwitschny (SPD) with a view of the area in the north-west of the town. Landscape planner Monika Driver presented the municipal council with what it might look like there one day. Accordingly, the basketball and skate fields are to be enlarged, new fitness equipment set up, a pavilion built next to the small field and the soccer field renovated. The concept also envisages a new building for the Höhenkirchen gaming association. In addition, a natural pool is to be built on the other side of Sportplatzstraße one day.

The municipal council has already given the go-ahead for the swimming pool. For this purpose, the community-owned area at Hirschwinkel is made available to the Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn Naturbad association – as long as it can afford the financing. The other plans for the sports park are still in the future, emphasized Konwitschny. “This concept is a first serve. We are at the beginning of a process.” However, the ideas presented were well received by the municipal council, which unanimously voted in favor of continuing the plans. However, Roland Spingler (CSU) criticized the mayor: “In our opinion, the game association should have been involved earlier.”

The club currently has to make do with a container system on the sports park area, which “lacks any modern working and teaching environment”, as the meeting proposal said. Accordingly, the game association should get a new building with offices, training rooms and storage facilities. The footballers in town should also be happy about the planned renovation of the soccer field and the plans for the small playing field. Not only are grandstand steps to be built there, but also a pavilion that could be used for yoga courses, for example. Meanwhile, the concept envisages an expansion of the skate area at the Blue Box, which is popular with young people. The basket facility next to the leisure center is also to be expanded into a real basketball court. According to Konwitschny, this could be realized on part of the parking lot.

According to the head of the town hall, all of these plans are medium- and long-term measures – with one exception. A beekeeping house for 15 bee colonies, including a teaching apiary, is to be set up behind the building yard. The background is a request from the beekeepers’ association in Ottobrunn and the surrounding area, which has to give up its current home in Hohenbrunn. “The beekeeping house should be built relatively quickly,” said Mindy Konwitschny. “The other measures will take much longer.”
