A boy and a girl die in a lake accident. The police can now reconstruct the process.

According to the investigators, the death of the 13-year-old and the 15-year-old in a Hessian bathing lake was an accident. “It was a swimming accident, we’re quite sure of that,” said a police spokesman today. The two could have swam and wanted to help each other in the water.

The fact that they got into trouble in the lake “may also have been due to the low water temperatures”. It was not initially clear how cold the Breitenbacher See was at the time of the accident. An autopsy may provide details of the cause of death.

Several young people were out on a boat on the lake in the afternoon. The boy and the girl went into the water and then went under for reasons that were initially unclear. The other youths also tried to save her and got help immediately, but without success, the police reported.

Helpers from the DLRG and the fire brigade, among others, searched for the two for several hours. A police helicopter was also in action. When the child and the young person were found, only their deaths could be determined, despite the medical measures taken immediately.
