Hervé Morin, centrist president of the Normandy region where the first vaccine against Covid-19 will be produced in France, lamented on LCI on Monday the choice of the last decades to “sacrifice” the industrial apparatus of the country, “paid” dearly today ‘hui.

“We will welcome the first plant that will produce the vaccine”, in the coming days in Eure-et-Loir, then “a second”, underlined Hervé Morin. Thus “we can expect massive doses from the end of spring”.

The “no need for factories” mistake?

The Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine is to be produced by the French subcontractor Delpharm, at its plant in Saint-Rémy-sur-Avre. Then it will be the turn of a vaccine still awaiting marketing, that of the CureVac laboratory, by the Fareva group on its site in Val-de-Reuil (Eure).

Essentially, this will involve filling the vials, packaging or sanitizing. “The whole collective strategy of the country for 20-25 years has been to create the conditions which have led to choices of relocations, too high compulsory levies”, estimated the former minister, recalling the speeches of business leaders on the “No need for factories”. It is “the choice to sacrifice its industrial apparatus” and “today we pay dearly”.

In Normandy, “we have done everything to maintain the industrial tool”

“I am in the most industrial region of France”, where the sector represents 22% of the GDP of Normandy, he stressed. “We have done everything to maintain the industrial tool, we enter the capital of companies” and “we tried to create the maximum conditions for companies to participate in the revival”, argued the one who is a candidate for his re-election in June.
