Here’s how Fendi wants to revive Italy’s leather industry – Economy

On the roof of the new bag factory, Europe’s fear of crisis takes a day off. The air at the ceremonial opening is wonderfully balmy, the light of the October sun is warm, and the view sweeps across the 30,000 square meter Mediterranean roof garden to the carefully landscaped Tuscan hills. In the midst of this idyll, the first 400 leather craftsmen started work in the glass studios on the ground floor six weeks ago. In the canteen on the roof they are catered for by Vicook, the catering offshoot of the 3-star restaurant Da Vittorio from Bergamo. So welcome to the new Fendi factory in the south of Florence.
