Here is the return of an iconic brand with two new smartphones to take on Xiaomi, Samsung and Honor

Realme is back in France, but until now… it’s been a timid return. Here’s a big launch since we discover the Realme GT6 and Realme GT6T. Two mid-range smartphones designed to compete with Xiaomi, Samsung and Honor.

Since its very timid return to the French market, Realme is relaunching the machine. After the entry-level with the C65 and the mid-range with the Realme 12+, the manufacturer is launching its mid-range, the Realme GT6and its more powerful variation, the Realme GT6T. The brand has great ambitions for these models, which it promises to be as accessible as they are efficient, and positions them as real challengers to Xiaomi, Honor and Samsung, with a price starting at 399 euros.

An always complicated position: this segment is very competitive, as you can see by reading our buying guide for the best smartphones under 400 euros.

Sleek design and performance

The design of the Realme GT6 series plays the card of clean lines, with a metal effect covered with Gorilla Glass Victus 2. It is designed to be as aesthetic as it is able to resist scratches and water splashes. They come in silver and green with an aesthetic finish that is difficult to deny. The three round photo blocks at the back really stand out from the rest of the case.

The Realme GT6 and GT6T respectively integrate the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 (for the GT6) and Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 (for the GT6T) SoCs, which reassures in terms of raw performance and smooth management of multitasking. It will be necessary to check whether the heating is controlled during the tests.

An exceptionally bright screen and special attention to photography

The Realme GT6 series wants to position itself as the one that offers the thinnest and brightest screens for less than 1000 euros. The manufacturer has therefore equipped its new smartphones with a screen Ultra Bright. Behind this marketing name, Realme explains to us that the screens can reach 6,000 nits in peak HDR. It’s huge, but you’ll have to check what the average SDR brightness measured is, that’s the one that really counts. In addition, with such brightness, Realme announces that HDR and Pro-XDR technologies enrich colors and contrasts, which should delight streaming video enthusiasts and gamers. Add to this the LTPO 8T technology which allows intelligent management of the refresh rate, reducing power consumption by up to 20%.

In this price segment, it is often photofraphy that fails. The Realme GT6 is equipped with a 50-megapixel primary camera with Super OIS and Sony LYT-808 sensor. This means that it should focus quickly and accurately, while still performing well in low light. On paper, it’s interesting.

There is also a deluge of names and other technical terms: technologies such as DOL-HDR, LBMF and Dual Native ISO would allow sharp and detailed captures, both for photos and for videos which can be captured in 4K definition with Dolby Vision. A telephoto lens is also present for 2x and 4x zoom in theory without loss. Lots of promises and technologies announced, but we will have to see the results on the ground to get an idea. Let us point out that Realme often remains behind in the field of photography despite great progress. So they have a lot to prove.

Extended battery life and fast charging

The GT6 series benefits from a dual-cell battery with a capacity of 5,500 mAh and 120 W SUPERVOOC fast charging technology. There is no wireless charging, which is one of the compromises to be made.

This configuration allows you to recharge the phone to 50% in just 10 minutes and complete a charge in 26 minutes, providing two days of battery life. Battery Sense Voltmeter technology ensures optimal charge management to extend battery life.
