Herbert Achternbusch is dead – culture

The director and writer Herbert Achternbusch is dead. According to information from companions and friends, he died at the beginning of this week. He was best known for his avant-garde films.

Achternbusch, born in Munich in 1938 and raised in the Bavarian Forest, was considered by many to be the legitimate successor of Karl Valentin because of his subversive, sarcastic humor. He leaves behind a great oeuvre that includes 30 films, 20 plays and 40 book publications. He has often dealt critically with his Bavarian homeland and the CSU ruling there.

He was also active as a painter; that was actually his real profession, which he had studied at the Nuremberg and Munich academies.
