Hemadlenzen parade in Dorfen: “Winter” is burning, the sun is coming out – Erding

The traditional Hemadlenzen parade as the highlight of the Dorfner carnival season attracted numerous fools to Isenstadt on Thursday. The event on “Unsinnigen Thursday” went like a picture book. At the climax, thousands of fools in white nightgowns crowded into the old town. The rush was enormous after more than two years of forced pandemic break: “A highlight, it couldn’t be nicer, the mood was great, the weather was great. More people came than usual,” said 31-year-old Princess Susanne I. “A culmination of the carnival season, a great experience,” added 43-year-old Prince Matthias I.

The Neumayer couple from Hofkirchen liked the move. The president of the organizing carnival society Dorfen von 1899 (KG), Martin Pommer, also drew a positive conclusion: “It was a fantastically beautiful, great parade. We are thrilled, it is a show that after a two-year break we are back in fantastic weather were allowed to start.” Mayor Heinz Grundner added that three years of abstinence increased the joy of being able to celebrate properly again. Among the visitors were the member of parliament Andreas Lenz, district administrator Martin Bayerstorfer, the mayor and members of the municipal council.

When, before ten o’clock, participants crowded next to the doll of Hemadlenzen locked in a wooden cage, it was still foggy and wintry cold in Dorfen. Lenz, who symbolizes winter, still had the scepter firmly in his hand. But when, shortly before noon, the doll burned within minutes on Marienplatz next to the statue of Mary, driving out winter, the sun had asserted itself as a harbinger of the approaching spring and ensured pleasant temperatures.

Visitors of all ages, dressed in white, had poured into the city center from all sides. On Erdinger Strasse, the entourage of carnival fans set off to the sounds of the town band. In addition to white nightgowns, colorful striped stockings, black pointed hats, white bonnets, necklaces with pretzels or backpacks with teddy bears were among the utensils of the fools, who usually had black ladders and red hearts on their faces. Along the way there were beer, mulled wine, prosecco and party music from loudspeakers at stands in the old town.

A party for young people, for the older visitors a reminder of how it used to be when moving. The custom has been around for more than 100 years. For the offspring – children had no school – there were colorful sweets and gummy bears, which were distributed from houses and the town hall to the delight of the little ones. First, they headed for the Untere Markt via Johannisplatz and through the church gate in the old town, where the princely couple was “awakened” in the Untere Turm, which was painted with a jester’s likeness. The whole old town was densely lined with fools. KG President Pommer, representing the 220 members, climbed up the ladder to the shouts of “Get up!” at the closed shutters. to wake up the madness. The royal couple descended to the court for plenty of balloons and volleys of confetti. Again and again the fool’s hymn “Oh du Himmel auf Erden” was intoned and waltzes to the sounds of the town band and the gugga music danced the Dorfner carnival Deife.

In Kosta’s daytime café, visitors watch the hustle and bustle. Landlord Kosta was satisfied: “The weather and the mood are right, it’s great,” he said. The entourage continued towards City Hall. There, the head of the city, Grundner, climbed down the ladder to his citizens. He had already “handed over” the key to the town hall at the Maschkera meeting of the KG on January 13 for the fifth season. The snow waltz and carnival hits like “Hands to the sky, let’s be happy” were played as the procession passed carnival flags and posters (“In the city of shirtless shirts, humor and fun should shine”; “Dorfen, the city of Hemadlenzen”), headed by the royal couple, KG president and district administrator, through the narrow Bäckergasse back to the Unterer Markt and towards Marienplatz.

Shortly before noon, the Hemadlenz in the white nightgown was pulled out of the wooden cage for the finale and burned to the cheers of the crowd within minutes on the gallows over the fire next to the Marian column. The puppet was ablaze with flames, was in a few seconds only shreds – until only a skeleton remained of the symbolized winter and spring had free rein.

But there was also something to think about: the action group “Village is colorful” had put up a poster with the words “Peace and democracy here and everywhere” on the Marian column to commemorate the turmoil of war. Anyone who wanted could continue partying in numerous pubs in town after the hustle and bustle in Dorfen on Nonsensical Thursday.
