The series of storms in Bavaria continues. Thunderstorms are expected in some areas over the weekend, but the weather will also clear up.

Update from May 25, 10:35 p.m.: The DWD has not extended its warnings of severe thunderstorms in Bavaria. There is currently no longer any acute danger of severe weather. The evening warning situation on the Baden-Württemberg border has also eased according to the DWD weather map.

On Sunday it will be “often pleasant”, says the weather forecast. However, isolated showers or thunderstorms are to be expected. However, there are no advance warnings from the German Weather Service yet.

Update from May 25, 9:53 p.m.: The district warnings issued by the German Weather Service are currently valid until 10:30 p.m. (see list). However, the DWD can extend them or expand them to other districts in Bavaria.

However, the current warning report states that the showers and isolated thunderstorms will subside during the night. This will be followed by local fog.

Heavy thunderstorm front approaches Munich: DWD issues warning in numerous districts

Update from May 25, 8.45 p.m.: The DWD has lifted its warning of severe thunderstorms for the districts of Fürstenfeldbruck, Starnberg and Weilheim-Schongau. The following districts in Bavaria are currently affected by thunderstorm warnings:

DWD warns of strong thunderstorms in Starnberg, Fürstenfeldbruck and Weilheim-Schongau

Update from May 25, 7:15 p.m.: The DWD has expanded its warnings of severe thunderstorms near Munich. Weilheim-Schongau is now affected in addition to the districts of Starnberg and Fürstenfeldbruck. Instead, the all-clear has been given in Upper Palatinate: the strong thunderstorms are moving further towards Lower and Middle Franconia. The warning of heavy rain has also been lifted throughout Bavaria.

Update from May 25, 6:15 p.m.: Large parts of Bavaria are currently glowing orange on the DWD warning map. The storm front is also moving ever closer to the state capital Munich: The DWD is now also warning of strong thunderstorms in the districts of Fürstenfeldbruck, Landsberg am Lech and Starnberg.

In addition, the weather service in Upper Franconia and Upper Palatinate has now issued an official warning of heavy rain. This affects the districts of Bayreuth, Hof, Kulmbach, Neustadt ad Waldnaab, Tirschenreuth and Wunsiedel i. Fichtelgebirge.

Update from May 25, 8:07 a.m.: On Friday, heavy thunderstorms swept across the country, accompanied by a shelf cloud that brought countless lightning strikes and heavy rain. This caused impressive cloud formations in the sky in Upper Bavaria. In the Donau-Ries district, a lot of hail that covered the roads between Hagau and Wolferstadt in white gave the visual impression of a brief onset of winter. The water collected on the roads and in the ditches.

The German Weather Service (DWD) is forecasting further thunderstorms for Saturday. In southern Bavaria and Upper Palatinate in particular, there could be strong thunderstorms in the second half of the day with heavy rain and rainfall amounts of 15 to 25 litres per square metre per hour. In some places, storms could even cause up to 40 litres per square metre to fall.

Severe weather forecasts in Bavaria: Thunderstorms and heavy rain

Update at 10.15pm: The German Weather Service has expanded its severe weather forecasts. Meteorologists reported significant weather in several districts. “Thunderstorms are moving in from the southwest. There will be heavy rain,” said a statement late in the evening. There could also be gusts of wind with speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour.

The DWD issued official severe weather warnings for two districts: Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen and Donau-Ries. Severe thunderstorms with heavy rain and small hail could occur here, the weather service further reported.

First report from May 24, 8 p.m.: Munich – It will remain uncomfortable in Bavaria in the coming days, and there is no prospect of summer weather yet. A meteorologist recently warned of a long series of storms in Bavaria. And the German Weather Service (DWD) also predicted thunderstorms, some with heavy rain, on Thursday (May 23).

There is currently an official severe weather warning for large parts of Swabia. “There will be heavy rain with precipitation amounts of up to 40 l/m² in a short time as well as gusts of wind with speeds of around 70 km/h and hail,” says the warning message, which is also currently being triggered on all common warning apps such as Nina or Katwarn. The severe weather warning is valid until 10 p.m. and for the following districts:

The DWD forecast on Friday evening said that isolated lightning strikes were to be expected in northern Franconia, especially in the first half of the night into Saturday. There is also the potential for local heavy rain of up to 25 litres per square metre in a short space of time, small hail and gusts of wind of up to 60 kilometres per hour. Thunderstorms are expected to occur primarily in Swabia at first, but will later move to Upper Bavaria.

Small hope for the weekend: Thunderstorms in some areas, but also clearings

According to the information, there will be more clouds than sun on Saturday. During the course of the day, showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected, especially in the southeast. Maximum temperatures will range from 17 to 22 degrees. According to the DWD, the showers and thunderstorms will slowly subside overnight into Sunday.

Sunny to cloudy weather is expected for Sunday. According to the German Weather Service, maximum temperatures will be between 20 degrees in Upper Franconia and 25 degrees on the Main and Danube. There is only a slight risk of thunderstorms, particularly in the eastern mountains.
