Since July 21, temperatures in the South Korean capital have not fallen below 25 degrees Celsius, even at night. This has consequences. An authority has registered deaths.

The South Korean capital Seoul is experiencing the longest streak of tropical nights since modern weather records began. According to the weather agency, temperatures in Seoul have not fallen below 25 degrees Celsius since July 21 – 26 nights in a row. The high temperatures are expected to continue until at least Wednesday.

In South Korea, the term tropical night is used when temperatures do not drop below 25 degrees Celsius at night. In German-speaking countries, people usually speak of tropical nights when temperatures are consistently above 20 degrees Celsius.

South Korea is being hit by a severe heat wave this summer. The National Agency for Disease Control and Prevention has already registered at least 21 deaths due to the high temperatures.
