In a recent study conducted by the British Heart Foundation, scientists concluded that the most dangerous heart attacks occur on Mondays.
The British Heart Foundation has come to some unexpected conclusions. In a study published last Sunday and presented at a conference in Manchester, researchers noted that dangerous heart attacks most often occur on the first day of the week. To reach this conclusion, they analyzed data from 105,028 patients between 2013 and 2018, hospitalized in Ireland who presented cases of acute myocardial infarction (STEMI).
The resumption of the work week in question?
The researchers therefore found a peak in STEMI on Monday. Regarding the explanations of this phenomenon, only hypotheses could be put forward.
“We found a strong statistical correlation between the start of the working week and the incidence of STEMI. This has already been described but remains a curiosity. The cause is probably multifactorial, however, based on what we know from previous studies, it is reasonable to assume a circadian element”, explains cardiologist Jack Laffan director of research. The disturbed sleep cycle could be one of the reasons for the conclusion of this study.
