Heart attack: Experts increasingly recommend cholesterol-lowering drugs

Cholesterol-lowering drugs could save a number of people from heart attacks and strokes and thus also from early death – even if their risk was previously assessed as medium or low. As the British health service NHS calculates, around 15 million people in Great Britain alone would also be eligible for the medication, in Germany it would be almost 20 million. Thousands of lives could possibly be saved. The optimistic prognosis is based on evaluations by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). Statin recommendations recently expanded even if the corresponding publication is not planned until May.
