The US broadcaster HBO has officially started its casting for a new TV series about the adventures of Harry Potter, Ron and Hermione. As the Variety magazine found out that children can apply until October 31st. The magazine also knows the application requirements. However, there is a huge catch for German Potter fans.
Casting call discovered by fans on the Internet
The search for the next Harrys, Rons and Hermiones has begun. The US broadcaster HBO has published a casting call for the three stars of the upcoming “Harry Potter” television series. Curiously, fans discovered the announcement by chance on the Internet on Monday. HBO confirmed its authenticity to “Variety” magazine. The series is looking for children who will be between nine and eleven years old in April 2025. The announcement also states that all ethnicities and genders will be considered when casting. “We are committed to inclusive, diverse casting,” it says. “We ask that you apply for each role with qualified actors, regardless of ethnicity, gender, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or other legally protected characteristics.”
Application hook for German Potter offspring
In view of the casting call, German children and parents are also likely to dream of playing the Potter role. But: The next Potters, Hermione and Rons must be resident in Great Britain or Ireland. Can they quickly get themselves onto the British residents’ register? That will probably be difficult. But as we know from the numerous Potter novels, nothing is impossible. To apply, the young actors and actresses must submit two short video self-portraits. The casting regulations state, among other things: “Please prepare a short video in which you tell us something about yourself, including your date of birth, height and where you live. Please also describe a family member, friend or pet that is particularly dear to you.”
Application deadline is 31 October
The submission deadline is October 31st. The series is to be filmed in Great Britain in 2025 and 2026 and will span seven seasons. Each season adapts one of the books from the series by JK Rowling (59). A release date has not yet been set. Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod (59) have been hired as executive producers and directors of the series. The seven books about wizard Harry Potter have sold more than 600 million copies worldwide and were made into films between 2001 and 2011 with Daniel Radcliffe (35) in the title role. The films grossed almost 7.2 billion euros.
