The novel “Hagen von Tronje” by Wolfgang Hohlbein will be filmed by Constantin Film both as a feature film and as a series.

Constantin Film meets the challenge of the Nibelungenlied: like the film company in a press release announces that the reception of Wolfgang Hohlbein’s bestseller “Hagen von Tronje” is to be filmed. And that twice.

The book, which was published in 1986 and is a reinterpretation of the classic saga, will be filmed as a cinema film and as a six-part series. The projects differ in that the story is told from two different perspectives.

In the film, Hagen von Tronje, the dark warrior of the Nibelungen saga, is a lonely hero. Meanwhile, Siegfried, hero of the Nibelung, embodies an “unscrupulous upstart”. It goes on to say: “In the struggle for power, every means is allowed and love is a more dangerous weapon than the sword.”

Directors of “The Passport” behind the camera

Filming will start in September 2022 in Prague and Germany. The press release speaks of a “visually stunning feature film” and an “exceptional production”. Cyrill Boss (47) and Philipp Stennert (47) direct, who have already directed films such as “Neues vom Wixxer” (2007) or the Sky series “Der Pass” (2018) as a duo. The performers will be announced in the coming weeks.

The project is an in-house production by Constantin Film, the streaming and free TV rights in Germany lie with RTL and RTL+.
