The decision by Bertelsmann and RTL-Deutschland to discontinue many magazines from the Gruner + Jahr portfolio and cut hundreds of jobs has far-reaching consequences not only for the publisher and Hamburg as a media location. Retail is also concerned. If 23 issues are actually to be published in the future, that will tear large gaps in the magazine shelves of kiosks, supermarkets, petrol stations and many other shops. In a conversation with the SZ, the press wholesale trade is now expressing concern about the Bertelsmann plans for the first time.
