After taking part in an anti-coal demonstration for several days in Lützerath, Germany, climate activist Greta Thunberg was arrested by the police on Tuesday, January 17.

The young woman was arrested while taking part in a demonstration against the extension of a coal mine in Lützerath, a village located in the west of Germany, indicates CNN.
According to sky news and BFM TVpolice say this is the second time that Greta Thunberg has been escorted by police officers due to incidents on the sidelines of the protest.
This time, the young activist “rushed” with a group of demonstrators towards the edge of the coal mine, which was particularly “steep and extremely dangerous”, according to the police.
Several days of protests
The Swedish activist took part in this demonstration which has mobilized several thousand people since Friday, January 13. The site has been occupied for more than two years by opponents of the mining expansion project.
Speaking, Greta Thunberg then castigated this coal mine extension project, evoking a “betrayal for present and future generations”.
“Germany is one of the biggest polluters in the world and must be held accountable”, she had notably launched, as relayed France 24.
“We are currently in Lützerath, a German village threatened with demolition for the expansion of a coal mine. People have been resisting for years,” she also tweeted the day before.
