Greenhouse gases – lawsuit against VW fails – economy

Environmental activists have failed with a lawsuit against Volkswagen (VW) in the Braunschweig district court. The lawsuit was admissible, but VW is within the legal framework. Activist Clara Mayer and Greenpeace directors Martin Kaiser and Roland Hipp accuse the group of causing too many greenhouse gases through the cars it produces. The beekeepers and forest owners Hipp and Kaiser see their property threatened “by the climate crisis, which VW has played a major role in causing”. The court said, however, that the state is fulfilling its duty to protect citizens through the Climate Protection Act. The plaintiffs would have to accept impairments just like the general population and would not have to make a “special sacrifice” that stood out from the crowd. “Health impairments affect everyone living in Germany.” Greenpeace announced further legal action.
