Jäger still in the lead at US Open – Swede Aberg leads

The young golfer Ludvig Aberg is leading the US Open – followed by a number of renowned stars. Two Germans are also doing well. The most famous participant, however, is already out.
The German golf professional Stephan Jäger confirmed his good start on the second day of the US Open and remains in joint 16th place ahead of the weekend.
Former winner Martin Kaymer, on the other hand, needed three strokes more than his compatriot with a round of 73 and slipped back to joint 37th place. The leader is the 24-year-old Swede Ludvig Aberg, who played a round of 69 after his round of 66 on Thursday and thus had a one-stroke lead over a chasing trio.
Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Cantlay from the USA and the Belgian Thomas Detry are in joint second place. Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland, the American Tony Finau and Matthieu Pavon from France are also in promising positions, two strokes behind.
Woods already eliminated
American Scottie Scheffler, who has been playing so outstandingly recently, put in an even weaker 74 after his opening round of 71 and just managed to make the cut with five strokes over par. The 27-year-old has already won five tournaments on the PGA Tour this season – including the prestigious Masters in Augusta for the second time.
US golf legend Tiger Woods, on the other hand, missed the qualification for the final two rounds with a total of 147 strokes. His compatriot Phil Mickleson will also no longer be taking part this weekend.
For Kaymer, returning to the Pinehurst No.2 golf course brings back special memories. The 39-year-old professional from Mettmann was the only German golfer to win the US Open there in 2014, securing the second major title of his career. However, the US Open triumph was to remain Kaymer’s last individual title to date. In 2022, the Rhinelander joined the controversial LIV Tour, which is financed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Jäger now has a better chance of causing a surprise. The 35-year-old from Munich, who lives in the USA, maintained his good interim result with his two rounds of 70.
