German trade relations: where to if not to China? – Politics

Of

Daniel Brössler and Claus Hulverscheidt, Hanoi, Singapore

Olaf Scholz has just got out of his limousine and nothing can really go wrong. The Chancellor came to muggy Hanoi on Sunday in search of friends, and there is already one. Phạm Minh Chính, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, boldly hugs the guest from Germany and greets him with a triple kiss on the cheek. The Hanseatic social democrat put up with it somewhat stiffly, but with a smile. Boys and girls with red scarves wave German and Vietnamese flags. Later, on the short walk from the Presidential Palace to the White House, the seat of the head of government, the entire government staff, also equipped with angle elements, seems to line the path politely. Scholz can and should feel welcome.
