The pregnant Angelique Kerber is planning a quick comeback on the tennis court next year.

“I think I’ll come back at the end of the year. So more like New York than Wimbledon, but if it’s possible in Wimbledon, then like there too,” said the 34-year-old from “Sport Bild”. Her favorite tournament, Wimbledon, which she won in 2018, starts on July 3, 2023. The US Open, where she triumphed in 2016, starts on August 28.

“I’ll take my time”

“I’ll take my time, because when I come back – then really. I want to attack directly and not play tournaments just for training,” said Kerber, who is expecting her first child with her boyfriend Franco Bianco in the spring. When she travels and plays again, she wants to take her baby with her: “I won’t leave the child at home. A nanny will definitely come along.”

The 2016 Australian Open winner is doing well with her pregnancy. “Everyone asks if I’m suddenly eating different things. But I haven’t discovered anything new. I feel like I’m eating healthier than I already am. But there’s nothing that I suddenly have cravings for,” she said.

Kerber continues to keep fit, including swimming and cycling, and she has started doing yoga: “I don’t want to get completely out of exercise. Now I just have more time, I can enjoy everything more and be more relaxed.”

She also still plays tennis, but only with children in her academy. She’s not afraid that they’ll accidentally hit a ball on her stomach: “There’s no danger.”
