It is now clear where one of the first two games of the DFB selection after the disappointment in Qatar will be shown.

After the World Cup is before the European Football Championship 2024 in Germany. The German national team of national coach Hansi Flick (57) has already qualified for the tournament as hosts. However, in order to avoid a similar debacle as the preliminary round in Qatar, a series of test matches for the DFB selection are on the agenda. One of them will be against Belgium’s national team in Cologne’s RheinEnergieStadion and will be broadcast live on RTL and RTL+ on March 28 from 8:15 p.m.

However, the game against Belgium will not be the first game played by DFB-Kicker after the World Cup. Before that, there will be a friendly against Peru in Mainz on March 25th. It is not yet clear who will broadcast this duel. However, it should be either the first or the ZDF.

Competition for the top dogs

In 2022, RTL positioned itself as a competitor to the public broadcasters by acquiring the broadcasting rights to 50 percent of the DFB games. The contract is valid until 2028 and thus includes games “at the European Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup and EURO 2028” as well as Nations League games and test games such as that against Belgium.

The German group games in the Nations League are also on RTL. On June 4th it’s against Italy and a week later against Hungary. The lion’s share at the home EM remains according to the industry website “KickerHowever, on ARD and ZDF: They broadcast 34 games of the tournament together, including all with German participation, the opening and final game and both semifinals.
