Fadumo Korn has been campaigning against female genital cutting for years. In an interview with the SZ, the 59-year-old explains why the topic is European and how she cracked Franziska Giffey.

It’s a topic that many prefer to ignore: female genital mutilation. But Fadumo Korn has been campaigning for years to get this human rights violation, which is still being practiced in many countries around the world, out of the taboo zone. The 59-year-old is from Somalia herself and was circumcised as a young girl. In 2012 she founded the association “Nala – Education instead of Circumcision”, which works for affected girls and women. Korn now wants to sensitize the people in the Ebersberg district to this topic in cooperation with the Kreisbildungswerk.
