Concerns about the future shake up the most intimate questions of life at Ronja Ebeling. The 25-year-old can only imagine becoming a mother if she is economically stable. “If not, not,” she says straightforwardly while walking in Hamburg’s hip Schanzenviertel. “We are postponing this important decision because we are under pressure to do enough on the job market first.” By “we” Ronja Ebeling means her generation, the 20 to 30 year olds. Actually, it is not their thing to bow to this capitalist logic. But as a woman, she wants to be able to pay for her apartment and pension even if she becomes a single parent.
