“When I see that, I get goosebumps,” says Andreas Schumski, pointing to two curves on the big screen on the wall. They show how crazy the world of energy business is right now: the price curves for electricity and gas are becoming ever steeper, and the swings are becoming ever more violent. Schumski is managing director of Stadtwerke Witten, a rather small municipal energy supplier in the Ruhr area. They operate three swimming pools, a pleasure boat – and supply around 26,000 households and companies with gas.
