The gas pipeline is complete, and the company Gas for Europe, based in Schwerin, was founded for certification. There, however, an ex-diplomat is resigning from his position on the supervisory board.

Former German diplomat Dieter Walter Haller has resigned from his position as chairman of the supervisory board of Nord Stream 2 subsidiary Gas for Europe.

Gas for Europe announced on Friday that he had informed the parent company about this step. Haller had been banned from working by the Foreign Office because it would impair “official interests”. First, the “mirror” had reported on the laying down.

According to Gas for Europe, Michael Feist and Wolfgang Peters have been appointed as new members of the Supervisory Board. According to the company’s website, both were or are active in the energy sector. According to the company, the supervisory board will decide on the chairmanship at its next meeting.

Haller held various positions in the Foreign Office and in the Federal Chancellery. Among other things, he was ambassador to Saudi Arabia and South Africa.

The founding of the gas transport company Gas for Europe based in Schwerin was announced last week. With the founding of a German subsidiary, Nord Stream 2 AG, based in Zug, Switzerland, wants to fulfill a requirement of the Federal Network Agency. This had suspended a certification process in November for the time being. The gas pipeline through the Baltic Sea has been completed but is not operational. About 55 billion cubic meters of gas are supposed to flow through them from Russia to Germany every year.
