Garden service: declaration of war on gravel gardens, aphids and snails

She has been familiar with organic gardens since her childhood on the farm – Marianne Scheu-Hergelt, head of the Bavarian Garden Academy, warns against our cities becoming petrified and reveals her insider tips against pests.

Ms. Scheu-Helgert, my roses have aphids hanging in thick, sticky clumps. Only lethal injection will help now, right?
No, but you’re late. Pest control actually begins in the fall. Leave the foliage under hedges and perennials. Numerous useful insects hibernate in this thick, moldy layer, including the ladybird, for example, the natural antagonist of the aphid. But it’s not too late. It’s not so bad to allow a small colony of lice in the garden. Preferably on a not so loved plant in a back corner. Then ladybugs, parasitic wasps, lacewings and hoverflies have plenty to eat and multiply.
