Sean Bean is increasingly enjoying roles in TV series. But will he be granted a long TV life as a gangster boss?

In contrast to most other actors, Brit Sean Bean (65) landed directly in the cinema without a major TV detour. As he gets older, however, the star is obviously finding more and more pleasure in roles in series. The mime, who turned 65 about a month ago, has a promising one. According to the US industry website “Deadline”, he has now landed the role. According to the report, he plays one of the main characters in the BBC gangster series “This City Is Ours”.

Bean will play the role of the leader of a Liverpool gang of gangsters named Ronnie Phelan. The series was written by “The Last Kingdom” creator Stephen Butchard and, according to the report, was able to attract the same producers as “The Crown”.

“It’s a joy to see the cameras rolling on ‘This City is Ours’ – with a stellar cast that has made Stephen Butchard’s great scripts even more exciting,” the BBC said.

A successful duo

Bean and Butchard recently worked together on the series “Shardlake,” which was released on Disney+ earlier this month. The actor also has several successful series formats associated with the BBC. Bean won a BAFTA TV Award for Best Actor in 2022 for the prison drama “Time.”

In 2011, Sean Bean first caused a stir away from the big screen with his role in the first season of the hit series “Game of Thrones” – on which he had already famously dueled with James Bond (“GoldenEye”) and Harrison Ford (81, “Patriot Wars”). After his trip to Westeros, he also had leading roles in the series “Legends” and “Snowpiercer”.

Considering Bean’s characterization in “This City is Ours” and his habit of being imaginative in almost all of his roles, there is only one question left: how many episodes will he be granted in the gangster drama? It will be some time before audiences find out – an official start date has not yet been announced.
