The final volumes of ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ will be different from the ‘Game of Thrones’ series finale, according to George RR Martin.
The “Game of Thrones” finale annoyed many fans. The eighth and final season of the hit series earned some scathing reviews. This news should cause a sensation all the more. Author George RR Martin (73) reveals on his blog that his novel series “A Song of Ice and Fire” will have a different ending. According to Martin, some things would “remain the same, but not many”.
“Game of Thrones” ended in 2019 after eight seasons. Most recently, the series overtook the book – with an unsatisfactory ending for many fans. There were even petitions calling for the final season to be reshot.
Fans have been waiting for a new book since 2011
George RR Martin still wants to publish two volumes of his fantasy saga. “The Winds of Winter” is the next title. There is no release date yet. Since 2011, fans have been waiting for new material. And an end to the waiting time does not seem to be in sight. “I write, I rewrite, I restructure, I tear up and rewrite, I go through doors that lead nowhere and doors that open to wonder,” says Martin.
Not all characters who die in the series get it in the novel
The rough framework for the last two books is already there. And it differs greatly from the hit series from HBO: “Certain things that happened on HBO will not appear in the books. And vice versa.” After all, there are characters in the novels that never appeared in the series. There should also be a few new characters in “The Winds of Winter”. Characters who survived in the series could also find their death in the books – and vice versa.
But he doesn’t want to reveal more about the end. “You will have to wait until I get there,” the author continues.
