“The measures we have taken this year have limited inflation,” said Gabriel Attal. “If the government had not taken these measures, we would have three more inflation points,” said the former government spokesman.
The maintenance had already been hinted at by the Minister of the Economy, in the columns of the Echoes, a few days ago. “Without the price shield, the increase in gas and electricity prices would be at least 100% next year. That is an increase of 120 euros on average per month and per household”, he had estimated. Before launching: “we will not let it happen”.
An order of magnitude of the capping level
If the Minister Delegate for the Budget did not specify the level at which energy prices will be capped, he gave an order of magnitude. “In 2022, we had blocked an increase which was to be 40% at 4%”, he began. And to specify: “if you keep the same orders of magnitude, you can have an idea”. The price of electricity could therefore be capped at around 10% increase.
Asked about the possibility of offering an “energy check” to the most modest households next year, Gabriel Attal explained “to provide in the finance bill for 2023 budget appropriations”. According to him, these devices “will allow, in the event that a rise is significant, to support the most modest”.
