It was a moment when many would have liked to look into the Chancellor’s face. But Olaf Scholz hid behind Joe Biden’s not even broad shoulders when he declared at the lectern that the US government would support the construction of a new type of small nuclear reactor in Romania. Executed by an American company, of course. This should “demonstrate the ingenuity of the USA in the advanced nuclear sector”, ensure jobs and energy security. And by the way, it also serves to protect the climate.
