G-7 meeting in Sicily: Italy’s farmers fear for their existence – their minister celebrates – economy

Agriculture Minister Francesco Lollobrigida actually has many problems: drought, floods, swine fever. But he turns the G-7 meeting in Sicily into a patriotic show where none of this will be noticeable.

Francesco Lollobrigida likes to be the front man of Italian food culture. The Agriculture Minister believes that his country serves as a role model worldwide in this area. “For us Italians, food is not just about nutrition, but also about quality,” says Lollobrigida in Rome. Here he presents his program for the agriculture ministers’ meeting of the G-7 countries in Syracuse on the Sicilian east coast. In order to assert his claim to international leadership on this occasion, he had the island of Ortigia, the old city center of Syracuse, transformed into a showcase of culinary Italy.
