A living room with two sofas: why crack?

Traditionally, a large sofa is associated with armchairs, the number of which varies according to the size of the living room. However, this tends to change. And now, we prefer to furnish the living room with two sofas: a solution that is great, and which also turns out to be surprisingly functional!

The corner sofa is reputed to be the friendliest, as it offers plenty of seating and is often accessorized with a modular chaise longue. The latter can indeed also serve as a storage box or even an extra berth. However, with its XXL dimensions, the corner sofa does not necessarily find its place in all living rooms. To have an equivalent number of seats, it is therefore sometimes smarter to use two sofas.

If it undeniably has advantages, the corner sofa lacks a little flexibility, since as its name suggests… it forms an angle! To create a more cozy living room, it may be interesting to adopt a layout that is a little off the beaten track. Here, for example, we have chosen two sofas with organic shapes, which are placed slightly at an angle to break up the angles of the room. And if the living room is spacious and convivial, it is also more cocooning.

Two sofas in the living room: which models to choose?

The choice of sofas is of course a crucial point! The first thing to do is to measure the space you have. To choose the dimensions of your sofas, think practical: you must be able to move around comfortably in the living room. In addition, it is important that your two sofas are well proportioned.

Your two sofas must occupy the space without overloading it visually. In a large living room, we therefore dare models of beautiful scale, however favoring pastel colors or light neutrals.

A Modular Model

In a small living room, you can fall for two small models or for a modular sofa made up of two distinct sections. Choose organic lines, which will make your sofas appear more compact.

When it comes to color, the safe option is to choose uniformity. To bring a little relief to the decoration, do not hesitate to prefer monochrome by choosing two models declining the same color in two different shades.

If the colorful living room tempts you, there is no need to repaint the walls: you can play with the sofas to introduce color. When selecting colors, opt for safety by combining two complementary colors.

The best way to create a harmonious space is to adopt two identical sofas – even if it means choosing two models of slightly different sizes. But this is far from being an absolute rule! In a large contemporary living room, you can fall for designer furniture, while maintaining a unity of material and color.

In a loft decor, allow yourself a touch of audacity by daring to mix and match. Ideally, we choose retro models, allowing ourselves a slightly offbeat baroque model. And it’s even better when your sofas have an aged look!

How to arrange your two sofas in the living room?

The location of your two sofas mainly depends on the layout of the room.

A classic option is to place the two sofas in an L shape. This creates a nice open space. To maintain a cozy atmosphere, it is important to structure the space, by combining the sofas with a large carpet materializing the contours of the living room. This configuration allows you to add a few additional armchairs and poufs. Depending on the configuration of the room and the style you want to give it, you can modulate the angle of the two sofas, adopting either an open or slightly closed angle.

The other obvious choice is to place your two couches facing each other. This option makes it possible to create a very convivial living room. This solution is also particularly suitable for a long living room with sufficient width.

Placing two sofas face to face is an excellent choice in a living room marked by a passage axis. Here, in spite of the door which involves arranging the living room at the back of the room, we have a cozy place in which it is good to meet.

Remember to take the time to think carefully about the location of your sofas, because depending on their layout, some models are more appropriate than others. So, if your sofas are both placed in the center of the room, it is smart to choose sofas with a very enveloping design.

If a passage is located behind one or other of your sofas, or if you want to isolate the living room area from the dining area, this also has an impact on the choice of furniture. Choose models with stricter lines and relatively massive, with a fairly high back. This visually structures the space and provides a sense of security and comfort once you settle in.

In this living room with a large window, we opted for a classic corner sofa and for a model without a backrest. Placed directly in front of the window, it lets the light and the gaze circulate.
